Cosplay, or short for costume play, is an artform where one essentially dresses up as a character, whether it be from a video game, movie, anime, etc. Many who attend conventions will cosplay, and meet/interact other cosplayers who are dressed from similar media sources. Some pursue this as work, and live off of revenue earned from creating hand-made costumes, props, and wigs for other cosplayers. With the somewhat recent development of online spaces, some choose to post their cosplays online- mainly on apps such as instagram and tiktok. Anyone can cosplay, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, ability status, body type, etc.
